History

Records about clothes, worn in the past, date back to the 11th-13th centuries. The main components of garments worn by an ancient woman were a linen chemise with long sleeves and a woollen coat. A woollen piece of cloth was wrapped around the hips and it was fixed with a belt. National costumes were the indicators of a status and national origin. Both everyday garments and festive costumes involved a complicated system of symbols referring to the wearer’s social status, marital status and age.
