This is what I think the pay-off line for residential
communities should be, and the three estates we
review in this edition are testament to that.
Chapman’s Bay Estate in the Western Cape had
to wait 30 years before it broke ground, and
now we see it becoming magnificent prime, lowdensity real estate. Cotswold Downs Golf and
Lifestyle Estate in KwaZulu-Natal, married the
pitched roofs and stone finishes of the Cotswolds
in England with indigenous South African flora,
to make a unique collection of villages that
offer residents the perfect family environment.
Breedezicht Estate secured the final area for
residential development in Witsand, overlooking
the mouth of the Breede River, where they aren’t
developing just an estate – they’re developing a
whole new way of life.

“Creativity through ambition” starts at the main
gate, where advancements in technology have
led to space-age solutions for access control
and visitor management systems. And as
quickly as fibre to the home is being deployed,
entertainment and management systems
are evolving. Network providers and Internet
service providers need to offer solutions that
support this technological advancement. We
caught up with Richard Jones, keynote speaker
at the FTTH Council conference that took place
in Cape Town recently, who gave us some insight
into what to ask for to ensure an open access
network.
So sit back, relax, open two bottles of wine
– now, that’s ambitious! − and wait for the
creativity to follow …
