With the focus of our February campaigns, both within these pages and online across our
digital channels, being Smart Moves, we take a look at some great options for making smart
moves – be it moving home, making investments, or just making day-to-day living a little
‘smarter’.

Opting to live out of the city is a smart move, and also a smart strategy for dealing with the
stresses of urban life. So we’ve had a look at some great spots on the outskirts of the major
urban centres – Somerset Lakes in the Winelands outside Cape Town, Serengeti in Gauteng,
and Zimbali Lakes on the KZN North Coast.

But making smart moves is not just about where you live – it’s also about how you live – so
we’ve explored some clever life hacks for dealing with a slew of everyday issues, like how to
creatively deal with the empty-nest syndrome, or the ever-increasing hotel bills associated
with business travel. The latter is actually a great investment opportunity, as we discuss in
our aerotropolis story. And, speaking of investments, we explore an unusual agricultural
investment option – cows. Not that cows are unusual per se, and they have a long history
of being a measure of wealth, but actually buying shares in either real or virtual cows is
something new.

And being smart is really all about planning ahead, so we’ve outlined a few options for taking
that Easter break. If you don’t start planning it now, you may end up just heading for the coast
at the last minute, and getting snarled up in horrendous traffic – and that’s not smart.

On the home decor front, we look at the smart option of using bamboo instead of wood and/
or granite for cupboards, flooring and countertops. It’s not only gorgeous, strong and light,
it’s also the environmentally smart thing to do. And, of course, the smartest of smart moves
is ensuring that you move into an estate with super-fast fibre, so we’ve demystified the nuts
and bolts of how fibre gets from A to ‘me’.
