Putting this month’s issue together has been a bit of a wake-up call for all of
us here at Estate Living. We’ve had to reseach, write about and think about
issues that most of us would rather deal with … aftermorrow.
Contemplating old age and death can be scary – especially if we focus on
the negative – but it can also be liberating. Accepting our own mortality
has the unexpected advantage of reminding us how precious our time on
this lovely blue-green planet is, and it also reminds us of how we fit into
our communities and families, and how important they are to us. It’s a
time to consider uncluttering and planning for a dignified exit, and also for
ensuring that we leave our affairs in order so that our families and friends

and depression. To slightly misquote Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Live as if you were
going to die tomorrow, and plan as if you were to live forever.’
