A NEW DESTINATION FOR DURBAN
Construction on the Ntshongweni Urban Development will commence early this year, effectively creating a
brand-new community much like the successful uMhlanga Precinct. A pinnacle place-making project, this
new development from Tongaat Hulett is the next logical urban precinct expected to unlock socio-economic
transformation for the highway area and surrounds. Environmentally sustainable, people-centric and

Two thousand hectares in extent,
Ntshongweni is located 30 kilometres
west of Durban. All development rights
for Phase One, the urban and retail core,
are in place and civil construction will
proceed in early 2019 with essential road
upgrades. Tongaat Hulett Developments
Managing Director, Michael Deighton,
says: ‘The urban and retail core will be
anchored by the Mall of the West regional
shopping centre, and will effectively kick-
start the development in the same way
that Gateway Theatre of Shopping did for
uMhlanga.’
