If you haven’ t guessed it by now, smart cities is the theme for this issue so we explore what the term‘ smart’ actually means in relation to environment, design and well-being. The biophilic concept of reducing our carbon footprint really isn’ t as hard to do as we think it is, but the outcomes are so rewarding that it’ s surprising that South African developers and municipalities are not becoming smarter faster.
Retirement – and all the concerns surrounding it – was clearly the big issue on everyone’ s mind at the Property Buyers Show in Cape Town last month. What are the residential options, how much do they cost, and are there good retirement properties in the R1.5 to R2.5 million bracket – these were just some of the questions people were asking. You will find the answers – at least some of them – in our retirement feature.
