September was a big month for Estate Living . We were invited to facilitate an informative and enlightening workshop for property developers and estate management around new technologies relevant to community living , such as 5G , IoT and sensors that enable AI . The workshop was part of the FTTX Conference in Durban . We then headed to the Association of Residential Communities ( ARC ) conference at Serengeti Estate in Johannesburg , where 150 community managers , international community managers and key service providers tackled challenges which the community face , and collectively found solutions . The core themes of the conference were communication , collaboration , adaptation and technology to drive efficiency , save time and resources . Estate Living launched the 5th edition of the annual Residential Estate Industry Journal – a best practice guide to the industry for both community management and their boards of directors .
But , while we know residential estates are fantastic places to live , they ' re also great investments . And , as we discovered when we started looking , there is more than one way to package your property investment .
Hotel rooms – or more correctly , hotel apartments – are a great way to add to your portfolio . These stylish , usually fabulously positioned developments offer the option of owning a unit in a wellmanaged medium- to long-term-stay hotel , with all the hard work of marketing , maintenance and hospitality done by the hotel .
Another great , and relatively low-cost way to get a foot on the property investment ladder is to buy a student apartment that you can rent out , or use to house your own offspring when they spread their wings – safely , but without cramping their style . And , at the other end of the lifestyle spectrum , investing in retirement property makes sense at any age – even if you ’ re not going to retire for forty years , you can buy at today ’ s prices and get a good income for a few decades .
But there ’ s a lot more to investment than buying into a development that looks as if it ’ s going to give a good return . It ’ s also about planning and consolidating – and about predicting what the next big idea is going to be . Wow , there is so much new and exciting happening – and we ’ ll be sharing it all on our website and our newly launched official YouTube Channel - a platform for shared expertise , collaboration and learning , and where you can experience our beautiful communities .
