Investing in South Africa is more than putting some funds into a fixed
deposit or squirrelling away a few K every month in an endowment. And
it’s also more than buying property – although that is part of it.
Investing in South Africa is about buying into projects and properties
that make our country a better place. And it’s also about profit, of course.
So, keeping all that in mind, we’ve gathered together some impressive
success stories – stories that give us hope, and stories that inspire us.
We’ve looked at some successful new developments, and those that
have been around for a couple of decades and are still remaining current.
And, even more importantly, are still showing significant growth in value,
thereby reassuring the people who bought into them back in the previous
century that they made the right decision – and allowing new purchasers to
buy confidently knowing that the return on investment in residential estate
property has been consistently higher than individual dwellings close by.
And this does not happen by accident, so we have looked at some ways
that proactive homeowner associations enhance the investment of their
property owners – take a bow, guys. You know who you are!
But investment is about more than money and the bottom line. It’s about
looking to the future, to social and environmental sustainability as well as
financial. So we are not surprised to find that the more successful estates
are almost invariably investing in sustainable technology – either upfront
or retrofitted. From renewable energy to water-wise gardening, it seems
that green is the new normal.
And, while the environment is incredibly important, and we (especially
those of us who, like the Estate Living team, live in Cape Town) love and
value our fynbos, it’s the people of this country that really make it what it is.
This is a great opportunity to celebrate those South African designers who
have wowed the rest of the world, and shown them that we have some
pretty innovative people, ideas and products here at the tip of the most
amazing of continents.
