our educators are constantly challenged to re-examine their methodology and implement successful interventions to improve learning Curriculum 60 the outstanding success that the school is known for today. But for our educational resurgence to continue, Curro needs to reconsider the status quo and apply new interventions. The authors of the McKinsey report identified two elements that were necessary for this to happen – sustaining, which “is all about how a system puts in place the processes for ensuring improvement in the longer term” and ignition, which is described as “the conditions necessary to spur a system to embark on its reform journey”. Curro is proud to have all of these elements in place. At the Curro Centre for Educational Excellence (CCEE), our educators are constantly challenged to re-examine their methodology and implement successful interventions to improve learning. Our learners play an even greater role in the educational process; they bring a lot to the table and do not rely on simply being spoon-fed information. Curro believes that a school is a community in which our learners can develop their EQ and acquire the necessary social skills, knowledge and experience. Curro adheres to an educational value system that honours child friendliness, a positive discipline and Christian ethos with high values, and creative thinking. Each of our schools is heavily involved in their community, extending education beyond the classroom walls. Our extensive outreach programme allows us to seek ‘to be the light that brings warmth, happiness and joy’ to the youth and involves the school and community in making an ongoing difference for the poor and helpless. Curro has never wavered from its original vision of creating an independent school education accessible to all South African learners. The formal knowledge our pupils will acquire through hard study and the informal social graces of empathy and kindness that they will glean from their school community will prepare them to become proud parents and good citizens. More importantly is their ability to ask questions, change the status quo and implement the next resurgence necessary for transformation. www.curro.co.za
