DE SIGN & DECOR Loc al L a d ie s Global D e sig n e rs DESIGN & DECOR 47 Interior design trends are constantly evolving! Changes in season, fashion, technology and the innovation of new materials continue to dictate demand and price conscious consumers want to support local craftsman and invest in ethically sourced and manufactured products. Local is definitely lekker! Take Indigi Designs, a design label showcasing the very best of locally inspired design without the stereotypical bells and whistles. Founded by Natalie du Toit, whose recent award as regional Emerging Entrepreneur by the Business Women’s Association of South Africa, is only testament to the phenomenal successes of the company. The brand logo draws inspiration from the dot style artworks which are prevalent in native South Africa and Australia, two of the countries Natalie grew up in. The motifs speak an entire language of their own, creating synergy for Natalie as well as a commonality between indigenous artworks and her own culture, heritage and upbringing. The result is interior design products with local flavour and global appeal, with bursts of bright colour and bold patterns. Every piece is proudly handmade in South Africa, including locally woven base cloth from the Eastern Cape; upcycled wire for the brightly coloured yet distinctive stools and sustainable wood sources for the side tables.
