Bags of Goodness
Everyone likes to receive a little treat from
time to time and Think Organic has one that
won’t make you feel guilty. The online shop
began in October 2013 and sells two prepacked bag options. Choose from either
the family pack, which has enough raw food
ingredients for a family of four, or a budget
pack, which is suitable for one person or a
couple.

Amidst the surplus restaurant offerings in
the Greenside suburb of Johannesburg is a
place that will surely prick your conscious,
and for all the right reasons too. Aptly
titled Conscious108, the numbers reflect
Buddhist concepts of something, nothing
and infinity, as well as the restaurant
address.
“Our pre-packaged bags are extremely
popular and are designed to force people to
learn, cook and taste something new,” says
Jamie Feldman, founder of Think Organic.
“We deliver them all over Cape Town and,
while we have the option to create your
own package, most customers enjoy the
surprise element of one that we have put
together, treating it as a lucky packet.” A
newly opened store in Cape Town also
sells a wide range of local supplies for the
food conscious, including free range meat,
vegan rotis, raw honey, dairy-free chocolate
and a wide range of fresh organic fruits,
vegetables, coffees, herbs and spices.
“There has definitely been a conscious
shift in South Africa with regards to eating
habits, with people realising that what they
put into their bodies actually does matter.
You are what you eat, after all.”

The restaurant aims to grow the movement
of veganism through food and was set up by
three vegan Buddhists. “We want people to
become conscious about their food choices,
conscious about how that choice can
impact Planet Earth and conscious about
others around them too,” explains Misha
Dhupelia. Offering a plant-based dining
experience, diners can expect to feast on
a wonderful variety of wraps, sandwiches,
burgers and salads as well as an incredible
section of salads and bakes and bowls,
specifically designed around whole foods.
“We really want to change the South African
mindset that is so strongly entrenched in a
particular food culture, and showcase that
diners needn’t forgo all the foods they’ve
come to know and love just because they
are choosing to dine at a plant-based
restaurant,” concludes Misha.
