RESIDENTIAL ESTATE INDUSTRY JOURNAL Volume 1 introduction Welcome to the Residential Estate Industry Journal I t’s incredible how time has flown. I think back to 2007 while working with the Eagle Canyon Golf Estate when we had our first ever meeting at the clubhouse with around eight or nine estate managers in the area. I still remember Hannes from Serengeti stating that estate managers were already getting together and discussing topics of interest in their specific communities. There was a definite need to create a body at a national and regional level where estates and staff could network and implement best practices, acquire qualifications, lobby and form a cohesive unit that would make a difference in the estate community. 01 *ARC_Residential Estate industry journal final.indd 1 Today, the membership of the Association of Residential Communities (ARC) stands at over 300 residential communities across all provinces 3/18/15 7:58 PM of the country, representing over 125,0000 homes. I am extremely proud of the fact that we have now developed an innovative industry journal where you can read about the history of the industry, the many industry initiatives that we have successfully implemented, and the formation of both the Community Associations Institute of South Africa and the Residential Community Council. journal was launched at the 2014 conference where 100 copies were presented to the conference delegates and a further 900 were distributed to various Homeowners Associations across the country. I have worked with many remarkable individuals over the last six years. These people are volunteers holding down full-time positions as estate managers in their associations, as well as many incredible business partners who have supported ARC and the estate industry. It is these people that need to take credit for what has been achieved in our industry. This industry Jeff Gilmour President Association of Residential Communities We hope that you enjoy and gain valuable insight into the residential community by reading this ARC Journal.
