Budget Request Changes Long-Standing Priorities BY BOB STIMOLO P resident Trump’s fiscal year 2018 budget request of $59 billion includes a reduction of overall funding for Depart- ment of Education programs by $9 billion, or 13 percent. U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos defended the funding re- duction at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services.
