As the national capital
of Canada, Ottawa
stands apart from oth-
er cities. No bragging,
but we do boast a
unique array of at-
tractions, from the
historic Mint to the
renovated Canada
Science and Technology Museum, the top secret
Diefenbunker to the awe-inspiring National
Arts Centre (NAC). It’s not a stretch to say that
Ottawa is a treasure trove of cultural delights.
Its compact pedestrian-friendly downtown
makes accessing these gems easy, too.
Indeed, downtown Ottawa is increasingly
becoming a social space. Major’s Hill Park, a
much-loved greenspace home to a thriving
festival scene, now hosts a casual restaurant
perfect for selfies and lounging (not to mention
gourmet hotdogs and champagne). Similarly,
the NAC is now hosting more drop-in events,
and its welcoming new space is a top choice for
simply taking in the sights of the Rideau Canal
and surrounding heritage landmarks. Parlia-
ment Hill, our crown jewel of national pride,
also hosts public events like lunchtime yoga
sessions popular with locals and tourists alike.

To experience Ottawa through the eyes of
a local, check out our Explore section that
highlights six neighbourhoods. All are easily
accessible by bike, car, or public transit and offer
an eclectic mix of shopping, dining, drinking,
and parks. Come for the specialty stores and
interesting businesses of Wellington West, enjoy
the intersection of heritage and modern build-
ings in Centretown, and dive into the many
flavours and treats of international cuisine
throughout Little Italy, The Glebe, Chinatown,
and Westboro. That said, the ByWard Market
is no tourist trap — locals flock to the open-air
market, late-night lounges, upscale shops, and
bustling pedestrian atmosphere of this historical
neighbourhood.
Whether you’re here with your family or
friends, for business or pleasure, we hope you find
Ottawa an inspiring place. Welcome to our city.
