Essential Install | Day in the Life: NGC Systems Issues integrating HDCP2.2 sources into your 4K AV system? Naim likes to document the location of all his projects from the air using his own drone – three of which are in the area above It’s definitely time to get a dedicated work space as the family home is getting full of kit more awareness generally and have more recognised qualifications, obviously that would be a good thing. “Next step for me is to make an investment in either a show flat or a more retail focused shop front. I can see advantages in both. I have clients who are happy to let me use their homes as demo spaces occasionally, but I am keen to move to a more professional level where I can show clients more of what is possible. “I also want to add more team members, as currently it’s just me. I would love to employ someone, ideally an experienced installer, who can help take the business up a level. There are big opportunities in the area to expand. I am really ambitious for the business; my motto is definitely, go hard or go home.” Naim adds: “Another area I want to do more of is working with developers on MDUs. I did one project where I wired more or less at cost all the apartments in a 40 property development and I retained the rights to go in and add control and AV to each resident. I know some people say to be wary here as the conversion rate can be very low, but for me I don’t need it to be very high. In a project like that, two or three and I am happy.” As for right now?: “I have loads of meetings lined up, including a first fix meeting on a current new build project. It’s a nice one as I am working with an electrician I have worked with before and we work well together. In fact he was going to recommend me for the project, but happily I already had it in the bag!” “Today I have a meeting with an interior designer to make some final plans for another project. I try and understand as much as I can where other trades are coming from, that way there is always a better result. I know from my point of view what my strengths are; I am not suddenly going to develop an interest in interior design, so why should the reverse be the case? I try to stay flexible and explain clearly what the needs of the system are and how they will benefit the client and the project.” Despite plans to expand, chances are Naim will remain very hands on: “My role might change a little as the company grows, but I just love seeing the project go from a load of boxes to a living, breathing system that the client responds to. I just love what I do.” It was a real joy for EI to meet this installer, with so much already achieved, winner of the installer challenge and projects in some of the most exclusive areas of London completed. It will be interesting to see what Naim does next… More Information: NGC Systems, +44 (0) 7932550888, www.ngcsystems.co.uk HDCP & Colour Bandwidth Converter XA-HDCP ® Visit our website for details cypeurope.com PIONEERS IN AV TECHNOLOGIES September 2016 | 21 CYP_EI_Advert_Strip_ADS_JUNE16_WIP2.indd 3 DIL.indd 21 16/06/2016 15:24 26/09/2016 15:21
