“ We did look at Control4 , but to be honest loads of people offer that now and I had heard some stories that reliability had gone down a little of late . Key for us was stability ; we want systems that deliver the same as any other part of a property ’ s infrastructure .”
On the AV side , the company is a big fan of the Artcoustic brand , featuring the speakers in the living room area in the shop window of the experience centre .
Liam enthuses : “ I had owned the brand myself before with my own 5.1 system a few years back and really liked the performance . The ability to offer a wide range of both cinema and attractive living space solutions just makes it a great all-rounder for us . I met with Tom Butler from Artcoustic at Essential Install Live ! last year and also went for a visit to the Artcoustic demo cinema , we also visited places like Pulse Cinemas , but in the end we felt the Artcoustic cinema sounded the best and the team were a big help in creating our own cinema . Tom also introduced me to Neil Davidson from Genesis Technologies who in turn introduced me to the Stewart Filmscreen brand which we have in the cinema too . Neil also had a hand in creating our cinema , providing the acoustic treatment with absorbers and diffusers from the Cinema Acoustic Treatment System or CATS concept the company offers . I have to say I have been really impressed at how friendly and helpful the industry has been supporting us in getting started .”
Other brands which feature in the experience centre include Sonance speakers via distributor Habitech . The company is keen to appeal to interior designers , so offering a demonstration of discrete in-ceiling options was key as was window treatment via the QMotion brand .
Kaleidescape is also included in the cinema and Liam is delighted that the brand has come through its recent troubles : “ I love cinema and automation , it ’ s why I chose this industry to work in , so naturally we think Kaleidescape is great . It offers a superb demo and there really is nothing else like it .”
Liam has worked hard to deliver an impactful demo , creating his own specially tailored scenes to show the cinema at its best which also includes D-Box seating and a choice between Barco or Sony projection .
“ We know the D-Box experience is not for everyone , it ’ s a bit like Marmite , but just personally , with the right titles , I think it really adds something special . As for Barco we met with Hamish Neale from the company at CEDIA Dallas last year and the capabilities of the brand and the range is very impressive .
“ We also liked the idea of reducing rack space and using a matrix which can combine audio and video , so we chose the Zektor brand available from Aldous Systems in the UK which we also saw when we visited the CEDIA Dallas show .
The Quest End cinema is ready to rock
Another Genesis brand ; the cinema is driven by Acurus AV , another manufacturer the team was impressed with at the Dallas show , noticing how many high-end speaker makers used the brand for their own demos . The team also like its ability to offer Dolby Atmos , DTS : X and the D-Box functionality all in one . The team have also created their own Savant driver which works with Acurus , which was used on the Genesis stand on its stand at Essential Install Live !
Quest End also offers exclusive access to the Jaymar cinema seating range , another relationship which came from the company ’ s trip to Dallas .
Liam relays the tale : “ It was really late and the show was closing , however we were desperate to experience the D-Box functionality being shown on the Jaymar stand . Mario from the company was really helpful and gave us a full demo whilst other stands were packing up . We were so impressed and grateful we stuck around to help with the breakdown of the stand ! The company has created some UK specific designs for us which we can demo in the cinema .”
A slightly more off the wall offering the company has is the Robomow brand of automated lawn mowers .
Liam says : “ You might think that this type of product would be an add on to a main install offering and to be fair that is the intention with it , but it also led to one of our first jobs where a client purchased one of the mowers and we have ended up doing a project with CCTV and some really nice exterior lighting control around the grounds which has fountains and ponds using the Loxone system . This project has got pretty much everything going into it apart from the AV side of things .”
So what now ? Liam responds : “ Our main aim up to now has been to get our offering and the experience centre absolutely spot on . Choosing the right brands and making sure we can deliver has been a very interesting journey and we are now working on spreading the word to our core customer groups as well as specifying and quoting to ramp up our work .”
So it ’ s onwards and upwards for this enthusiastic new player .
