Essential Install | Day In The Life : Quest End

On A Quest

Daniel J Sait met with Liam Parker , MD of Quest End at the company ’ s new and impressive Maidenhead based showroom to chart this relative newcomer ’ s journey into the world of the smart home .
The Maidenhead experience Centre packs a lot into a compact space
How the Quest was won ! Liam is immensely proud of the company ’ s new Experience Centre
Based in the heart of the old town part of Maidenhead in the borough of Windsor , the company has secured for itself an enviable base from which to launch itself into the market . However , Liam ’ s career path took several turns before he reached his dream .
“ My family owned a firm which supplied software to businesses working in the surveying industry . It was never really my goal to work there , but following my A levels , the company needed someone on the support desk , so I promised to help out for six months , which turned into 15 years !
“ My older brother also worked at the firm . We both started at the bottom and worked our way up . It was an invaluable experience . My focus was on the tech side of the business and training the clients , but I also worked with all aspects of the company including sales and accounts so gained a real working knowledge of how a company operates and how it should be run . I also gained some knowledge of the property developer sector which would also come in useful later on .”
Liam explains : “ Around seven or eight years ago the company was sold to a part of the Daily Mail Group and I stayed on helping for a few more years before deciding to branch out on my own . I had never been a fan of the big corporate structures and wanted to build a successful family business like my parents had done and my first opportunity came within the property developing sector as whilst I was still at the old firm . We were able to acquire and develop the site we are in today , beginning with a residential project on the upper floors . My first real foray into the install industry was when clients in the property development side wanted a ‘ lighting solution ’ and this bought me into contact with Loxone , a brand which has become a key part of our offering .”
Wanting to make his mark and provide a solid base to work from , Liam and his team set to work developing the ground floor and basement areas of the Maidenhead site to turn it into a fully-fledged showroom , with automation and AV areas on the ground-floor and a home cinema in the basement . The experience centre officially opened in September and is designed to give visitors a grounding in all the main brands the company has chosen to work with . Despite a relatively compact space with which to work , the team have created an engaging space with enough to provide a good insight into what is possible , without over-packing the space and making it feel too tech-heavy .
So how did the company go about choosing the brands it wanted to work with ? Liam says : “ It was really important for us to offer a clear choice . Providing bronze , silver and gold options , like when you go for a car wash , provides a clear choice for customers that even if they don ’ t know much about the technology , they can relate to .
“ The main automation brands we use are Loxone as an entry level type system ; we love the way the system is straightforward to install
