Pioneer Boosts Entry Level AVR Offering
Pioneer has announced the release of the VSX-531D , an entry-class AV receiver which the maker says delivers satisfying results in multi-channel or two channel set ups . The VSX-531D also includes DAB / DAB +, Ultra HD ( 4K / 60p / 4:4:4 ), HDR ( High Dynamic Range ) and HDCP 2.2 video pass-through and built-in Bluetooth connectivity for added BOYD capabilities .
Lacking the latest surround formats , the unit is perhaps best suited to a second room or bedroom rather than as the hub of a main system , delivering its 5.1with 130 W / Ch ( 6 ohms , 1 kHz , THD 1.0 % and 1-Channel Driven ) of power . The machine does support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio found on Blu-ray Disc .
Set up is designed to be easy regardless of whether driving a simple two channel system or a 5.1 and the unit also includes MCACC ( Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System ), designed to optimise the listening experience . With the dedicated setup microphone , the system compensates for differences in speaker size , level and distance , equalizing the response . Additionally , Phase Control Technology eliminates phase lag caused by the low-pass filter between main channels and subwoofer , to reproduce a clearer mid- and high-range sound .
The Advanced Sound Retriever function restores sound-pressure levels to their original state before compression for files including WMA , AAC and MP3 . The same technology compensates for signal information that ’ s lost during the file compression process .

Monitor Audio launched its new invisible speaker option at ISE 2017
Monitor Audio Goes Invisible
Monitor Audio describes its IV40 as a ‘ breakthrough speaker designed to deliver best in class audio performance ’. Engineered to be concealed in-wall and in-ceiling applications , visitors to ISE 2017 got an opportunity to hear the performance .
“ Architects , designers and clients are increasingly attracted to the benefits of an invisible audio soundstage ,” says Monitor Audio ’ s technical director , Dean Hartley .
“ A completely concealed solution appeals where there is demand for audio in the home , in hospitality , commercial and public applications but also where it ’ s paramount to preserve the integrity of the interior aesthetic . Using all our 40 years ’ experience , we ’ ve built the IV140 to bring both ultimate discretion and audiophile performance to the invisible speaker category .”
To deliver sound quality , the Monitor Audio IV40 features a large low-frequency exciter for punchy bass , while two high frequency exciters are bonded to a flat , soft polymer membrane surface to produce sound vibration . Monitor Audio says that this two-way exciter design also features an integrated crossover , in the same way as a conventional high performance speaker , to create a wider frequency range .
The IV40 also has a unique hybrid back box design created to isolate sound and promise a consistent , controlled performance , regardless of placement . The design of the box limits low frequency below 75Hz . For projects where more low frequency extension is required , the rear cover can be removed to create an open back speaker .
The IV40 measures 95mm deep with an 83.5mm fitting depth , meaning it should fit into all conventional 4in stud bays within walls , leaving enough room for cabling , or within ceilings . Once skimmed with plaster , the speaker can be finished with paint , light wallpaper or fabric .
