favourite TV shows and movies , LG says it works with many of the global leaders in content provision to understand how they plan to produce and distribute HDR content . Taking an open approach and understanding that there is ‘ no one best way ’ to deliver HDR , LG says it aims to support the widest range of consumer HDR formats available . From launch , all the new LG OLED 4K TVs will support four different formats ; not only HDR10 ( used by Netflix , Amazon , Blu-ray disc ) but also HLG ( Hyrbrid Log Gamma ), which has been developed as a joint venture between BBC & NHK . Additionally , leaning on LG ’ s relationships with Hollywood , LG will continue to support Dolby Vision HDR and for 2017 will add Advanced HDR by Technicolor . No matter the format , LG says its OLED TVs are prepared to play back and deliver HDR images that can now peak at 1,000 nits .
Another key development from the company is in TV design with its flagship model , the LG Signature OLED TV W with Picture-on-Wall design at just 2.57mm deep . The TV is designed to be mounted via an innovative combination of hooks and magnets , making it look as if the TV is at one with the wall , with less than 3mm clearance from the wall to the back of the TV . The TV connects to a separate , 4.1 Dolby Atmos soundbar which houses all the connections and inputs that make the TV work .
The LG Signature OLED TV G7 offers a different option with a table top and wall mounted design , again utilising LG ’ s ‘ Picture on Glass ’ design concept . By placing an OLED panel against a sheer pane of glass , LG says it gives the TV a lightweight appearance and also allows for the design of the TV to blend into any environment due to the nature of the transparent glass . Not only does the TV screen disappear into the background , but the stand of the TV folds behind the screen to create a wall mounted option , delivering front firing Dolby Atmos sound .
Offering access to brands such as Panasonic , LG , Samsung , Sony and Loewe , distributor AWE is confident it can offer a solution to most TV needs .
Highlighting some 2017 options , AWE points to the Panasonic EZ1002 , a HDR-capable , Ultra HD OLED TV , which supports professional grade image processing . OLED is fast becoming one of the success stories of recent times after years of struggling to make the technology affordable at the right screen sizes ; makers like Panasonic have now cracked the formula . The EZ1002 offers strong image performance as well as the Dynamic Blade Speaker , a slim audio system that houses 14 multiple speaker units to boost the TV ’ s audio abilities .
The EZ1002 also features My Home Screen 2.0 , an EPG designed to deliver a smooth and intuitive user experience across all of the content sources . The screen itself has been designed as part of the Panasonic ‘ Art & Interior ’ concept , featuring dark metallic finishes and showing no visible seams , the flat screen has been designed so it appears to float above its stand . Available in 65in , the Panasonic EZ1002 will be available in Europe from June 2017 .
LG is also on the OLED bus with a new range , the stand out example being its Signature OLED TV W . This very thin screen offers HDR and Dolby Vision tech as well as improving non-HDR content . The model is also trailed as the first of its kind to bring both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos together . The set is also designed to have a very wide viewing sweet spot . Available in 65in and 77in models , the LG W7 will be available in April 2017 .
Samsung has introduced its own screen tech it calls QLED , leveraging its in house developed Quantum Dot technology , developed to improve the brightness and vibrancy of colours . Boasting between 1,500 and 2,000 nits peak brightness , Samsung says the screens are brighter than any OLED TVs , allowing HDR content to be true to life for movies , live TV or games . This new line-up features three ranges , two being flat-screens and one being curved . Availability of the new Samsung QLED screens has yet to be announced .
AWE also offers access to the Loewe brand which recently introduced its new flagship Bild 7 OLED TV . Using a custom made panel from LG , Loewe adds a large helping of its own technology and style including boosts to the TV audio via a neat integrated motorised soundbar , its own picture processing , an integrated hard disk ( PVR ), high-end build quality and wide-ranging connectivity and multi-room options . The sets support 4K Ultra HD and HDR ( High Dynamic Range ), with Dolby Vision to follow soon . It is also compliant with the Ultra HD Premium standard ( currently awaiting certification ).
The screen has an aluminium bezel finished in matt graphite grey ( similar to Apple ’ s Space Grey ) created to coordinate with a choice of dark or light grey acoustic fabric for the soundbar at the front and cable cover at the back . Prior to power-up , all that is visible from the front is the glass screen , with its discrete bezel and ‘ Loewe Eye ’ hanging beneath . Switch the TV on and the screen slides upwards , revealing the integrated soundbar . The TV comes with a wall mount , with optional table and
