Essential Install | Projectors And Screens DID YOU KNOW: Disney turned down the chance to make Back to the Future saying the mother/son relationship was too risqué The BenQ brand is now part of the Pulse Cinemas family with its 4K W11000 and W12000 models Epson now offers High Dynamic Range (HDR) with the EH-LS10500 which also offers 3LCD refl ective panels, 4K-enhancement, a laser light source and support for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and other HDR sources. Created for a dedicated home cinema environment, Epson’s 3LCD refl ective panels and the dual laser light source are designed to deliver a wide colour gamut and absolute blacks. A high aperture and high-speed motion response are included to help with sharp and detailed images. As well as offering 4K HDR, the machine can enhance 1080p content and also offers ISF calibration. Utilising the laser light source also means that it can achieve a wide colour space, covering RGB, DCI and Adobe RGB. The dual laser light source also delivers 30,000 hours in Eco mode a stat that Epson says is equivalent to watching one fi lm every day for 46 years. Start-up time is quoted 20 seconds from off to full-colour performance. Installation is also assisted with what Epson says is an almost silent fan and a wide lens shift for off-centre positioning. The package is completed by AWE with the provision of its Designing an Immersive Home Cinema course, part of its Smart Home Academy, a complete grounding in design and installation. Amy Madden, residential technology manager at Draper is keen to further underline the importance of the screen: “It’s key to push how a projection system makes the experience more immersive and to educate the consumer on how the screen contributes to that. And it’s about more than just size. It’s also about contrast, colour, resolution and sound. With 4K projection and the increased colour space and contrast of HDR, the screen needs to be able to perform at the same high level. “Having screens that are ISF certifi ed for colour accuracy guarantees a screen is up to the task. It’s also important to look at true ambient light rejecting screens to o pen up the possibilities of where the screen can be located and increase the ways it can be used. Another interesting point is audio. With screens, we can perf the material and hide the centre speaker directly behind the screen.” On the tech front, Draper also points to its brand new TecVision CH1200X ALR, a grey surface with an ALR rating of 20, meaning 80% of ambient light is rejected. A higher 1.2 gain is in place to help brighten the image and the material is available as a nanoperfed acoustically transparent solution. Laser projector 4K enhancement technology HDR and UHD BD support Wide lens shift Pulse Cinemas naturally has plenty to say on this subject, with company MD, Mike Beatty arguing: “It’s clear that while certain sectors of our industry are struggling to fi nd traction, cinema is continuing to prosper. Screen Research sales across the U.K and of course the world are a good indication of the health of the cinema market. Having product ranging from affordable fi xed and motorised to more elaborate masked screens for dedicated theatres, show us one thing; more than ever clients are choosing to watch movies in the comfort of their own homes, rather than sharing the experience with the public. “Our next and much-awaited update at Pulse Cinemas HQ comes in the way of the most beautifully designed fl ex cinema. The furniture is being built and the room is designed to order. We promise it’ll be worth the wait! We have a few surprises being installed into the room, sitting alongside our trusted Kaleidescape movie server, Screen Research Decor-mask and 4K projector, along with some beautifully designed furniture. We will be incorporating the very fi nest cinema performance, with the addition of James Loudspeakers!” Look out for more news on this new partnership in the coming weeks. As well as Screen Research, a Pulse brand since 2004, offering many custom options, Pulse back this up with its own service and after sales support to complete the picture. Ian Bolt, CSS MD, says: “Knowing these guys have been here before and have massive experience in the world of custom install gives our company the certainty required when taking on the projects we do. We can’t afford to take chances specifying brands with unknown credentials.” World sales manager for Screen Research, Maximilian Ramp, adds: Screen Research have distribution across the world, but Pulse Cinemas has been the company’s top performing distributor ever since it took control over ten years ago. We are proud to be working alongside such a dedicated and professional partner.” Kapes Patel, Pulse Cinemas technical director and partner at Pulse, points out: “Distribution can be misunderstood by many trying to mirror our model. We have a strong team at Pulse, looking after our dealers’ every dilemma. Importing products and adding a margin isn’t what our dealers are looking for; they need to know we have their backs and will drop everything to support an effortless installation.” Pulse is also keen to announce that the company now has a conclusive range of projectors about to be installed at the dedicated demonstration facilities. The Digital Projection range of 4K projectors are now joined by entry level 4K from BenQ, in the form of the W11000 and X12000. Both home cinema projectors produce 8.3 million distinct pixels (3840 x 2160) for strong clarity and 50,000:1 dynamic contrast. BenQ says the W11000 is the world’s fi rst THX Certifi ed DLP 4K UHD home cinema solution with Rec.
