If you arrive to or depart from Calgary by plane, then the YYC Calgary International Airport will be
the first and last place you visit and the first and last sight you see. “This image is a collaboration
with pilot Douglas Roberston of Calgary,” says photographer Neil Zeller. “He owns a small
plane and just loves to fly. He uses me as his reason to fly, as my typical photo location requests
challenge him to go where he wouldn’t normally go on a pleasure flight. If I ask him if we can
go fly near the airport, he will then go through all the steps to gain us our permissions. On this
night, the new runway 35L/17R was closed for some reason and we were given clearance to fly
directly over the center line of the runway allowing us to get close enough to the new terminal
to get this great photo.” Turn to page 54 to read “Taking Flight” to find out more about the new
amenities at Canada’s most advanced airport terminal.
