City of
Festivals
i BEAKERHEAD is a blend of
science, engineering and art, and
for 5 days a year, its unique and
giant art forms take over the city,
from a Snakes and Ladders game
that takes you on a route through
the downtown core, to giant
tentacles protruding from one of
Inglewood’s historic buildings—
illustrating the real-life ability of
a regular octopus, which has no
bones, to squeeze through a hole
no bigger than a lemon.
i The CALGARY PRIDE festival
includes a parade of more than
60,000 people celebrating the
city’s diversity and marching
for human rights. In 2011, Mayor
Naheed Nenshi became the first
Calgary mayor to lead the annual
parade.

THE ESSENTIAL CALGARY 2018
HOFER.
Calgary is known for its
biggest and most famous
festival, the Calgary
Stampede—but the same
attitude of fun and hospitality
lingers throughout the year,
fueling numerous giant and
participatory works of art,
musical hubs and massive
celebrations of Calgary’s
diverse citizens.
