Currently students are faced with the challenge of developing literacy skills that better align with new presentation modes; shifting skills and knowledge bases; socio-cultural change due to globalisation, and advancing technologies (Cope & Kalantzis, 2009). With this in mind, the purpose of the following essay is to discuss and explore the impact of ICTs on literacy learning with a focus on appropriate pedagogy. The essay will begin by exploring what literacy skills are required in classrooms today. Following on, discussion will then focus on appropriate pedagogy for 21st century literacy learners. Then discussion will explore on how this pedagogy can be applied to enhance students application of multimodal skills in literacy learning. All with the view to affirming the thesis statement; Multiliteracies Pedagogy is essential in the development of multimodal literacy skills for 21st century learners.
