Do You Know Anything About Sherlock Holmes? Did you know that on 5th of January, every year, in the capital city of Latvia, Riga, there is a celebration of Sherlock’s birthday? Did you know that from 1979 to 1986 director Maslennikov shot the famous film "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson" in Riga? Sherlock Holmes is a fascinating exciting character and he is popular for his detective role in Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. Sherlock Holmes is popular for his incisive logical reasoning and use of forensic science to help him solve very difficult cases. This is my favorite detective character. The Conan Doyle books This wonderful character is described in the Scottish author Conan Doyle’s book “The Complete Sherlock Holmes: All 4 Novels and 56 Short Stories". Holmes is considered the prototype of Dr. Joseph Bell the colleague of Conan Doyle, who worked at the Edinburgh Royal Hospital and was famous for the ability to guess a person's past by their character in every little detail. The first piece of the famous detective story is "A Study in Scarlet", written by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887 and the last collection, "Archives of Sherlock Holmes,"was published in 1927. Sherlock Holmes’ Ability Sherlock Holmes is no ordinary detective. He does not work for anybody or any authority. He works alone. Sherlock Holmes has a special skill or special brain. Anyway Sherlock Holmes is able to make connections between causes and effects better than anyone else. Holmes solves crimes with his gifted mind, but he does have a natural talent for martial arts: guns, swords, canes, chains. He is very active and visits the crime scenes, questioning people and gathering evidence. He is always two steps ahead of the London Police.
