By Maureen Jagona Okore
May is here again and one of my favorite topics is back in the limelight . Mental health . As you are aware , 13th to 19th May is the commemoration of Mental health awareness in most countries worldwide .
Having worked in the hospitality industry we tend to care so much for people ’ s comfort and sometimes it may be quite easy to forget your own needs . At times putting others first can make you go into auto pilot such that you forget to maintain your own self-care routines .
Suffice it to say , as a great observer of some of the offerings in this industry there is a great deal of linkage between the services offered and their contribution to your overall wellness .
Now having read a thing or two about self-care , according to Blissfull Mind blog , there are 7 pillars of self care as listed here-under : Mental , Emotional , Physical , Environmental , Spiritual , Recreational and Social .
Mental : By staying mindful and curious one can create room for self care for their mental health . By ensuring we try to retain a positive mindset in our daily life , taking measures to reduce stress and practicing gratitude , we can greatly increase our mental health . Journaling , meditating and taking time to learn new things , about ourselves or simply upskilling in an area of interest are a few of the ways to practise mental self care .
Emotional : Taking time to acknowledge and process our emotions without judgment allows us to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our needs . One can book themselves a room for a weekend staycation at a city hotel and just freely feel their feelings in the privacy of a hotel room . Additionally , seeking support from trusted friends , family members , or mental health professionals can provide invaluable guidance and validation . Ultimately , practicing emotional self-care empowers us to navigate life ' s challenges with greater clarity , compassion , and strength .
Physical : Physical self-care is a core of holistic well-being , encompassing practices that nurture and support our bodies . Regular exercise , balanced nutrition , and sufficient rest are fundamental components of physical selfcare . You can schedule a regular workout at a city hotel like Park Inn by Radisson , and enjoy a well-equipped fitness center at the property . You could also choose to enjoy a nutritious meal , at the inhouse restaurant within Park Inn by Radissson by in Westlands . Ensure to get adequate sleep , to boost energy levels , enhance mood , and foster resilience against stress .
Environmental : Environmental self-care involves nurturing our connection with the natural world and creating surroundings that promote well-being . This can include spending time outdoors , whether it ' s sitting leisurely in the beautiful gardens of your favorite hotel like The Fairview , at https :// rb . gy / c3tvfz in upperhill , and immersing oneself in nature ' s beauty . Or leisurely walking through Karura forest . Cultivating green spaces within our work environments , such as adding plants or opening windows for fresh air , can also have a positive impact on our mood and productivity .
Spiritual : By tending to our spiritual needs , we foster a sense of wholeness , resilience , and interconnectedness with the world around us . It involves nurturing the essence of our being , acknowledging our innermost values , beliefs , and connections to something greater than ourselves . It ' s about exploring and deepening our sense of purpose , meaning , and inner peace . Practices such as meditation , prayer , mindfulness , or spending solitary time
in nature can help us cultivate spiritual well-being . A great way to do this is to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to serene places in the Mara like , https :// bush-and-beyond . com / housein-the-wild-1 . At House in the wild you can volunteer to work in their community initiative with the Maasai locals and also environmental conservation efforts .
Recreational : Recreational self-care involves engaging in activities purely for enjoyment , relaxation , and rejuvenation . It ' s about setting aside time to do things that bring us pleasure and fulfillment , free from the pressures of work or responsibilities . Whether it ' s pursuing hobbies like painting , you can schedule to attend a Sip and Paint event where you will tend to your inner child by painting from imagination or observation . In a relaxed setting with drinks and music among friends at the Pride Inn Azure hotel . Such recreational activities provide an opportunity to recharge and unwind .
Social : Social self-care entails nurturing healthy relationships with others while also setting boundaries that prioritize our well-being . It encompasses activities that allow us to connect , communicate , and engage with our social support network in meaningful ways . This can include spending time with friends and family , participating in group activities or clubs , or reaching out to loved ones for . It ' s also important to cultivate relationships that are positive . One way to enjoy social self-care is having regular girls meetups like high tea or brunch at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi .
