WHERE WE SEE IT
2D visual effects are much needed by the 3D department to integrate the 3D assets into the shot seamlessly . 2D VFX is used in many cases , even as small as removing a sign off a lamp post in the background of a commercial . Also the removal of Henry Cavill ’ s Superman moustache in Justice League ( 2017 ) was done with 2D VFX .
JOBS
There are a variety of jobs in 2D visual effects . The most common one being the Compositor who integrates 3D elements into the shots which includes keying and grading . Other common roles are Matte Painter or Roto Prep Artist .

INDUSTRY BACKGROUND
Some of the film world ’ s first CGI was created for the 1982 movie Tron . Other milestone movies that broke new ground in special effects included The Matrix ( bullet time ), Lord of the Rings ( motion capture ), Avatar ( motion capture and CGI ), and The Walk ( 2D ).
