menu and a philosophy centered around friendliness and true hospitality. The clear fan favourite and by far the biggest seller the FOB, crumbed Mahi Mahi, salad and lime mayo tastes as good as it looks. Staff are constantly quizzed on how to make our signature sauces and dressings ... but what happens in the kitchen stays in the kitchen! The Mooring also have unique daily specials that make use of fish or produce that is in excess during certain seasons, and customers love to try new creations such as our famed fish curry or specials-turned-permanent items such as the spectacular fish tacos. What many people don’t know, is that the now bustling waterfront location that is iconically The Mooring actually hosts a much more significant historical place in Rarotonga’s history. The opening from the Avana lagoon to the ocean is where the 7 vaka departed from Rarotonga to voyage to New Zealand. Prior to The Mooring and The Avana Fishing Club, the site was largely unused but since its inception collectively they have actively participated in the community and focused on bettering this space for locals and tourists alike. Arguably one of the biggest wins was applying for and gaining funding to build the jetty and new boat ramp which is now in place and used daily by local fisherman, kids jumping off for a bit of after school fun, and providing a backdrop for many happy tourists. The Mooring has been intentionally rewarding the community and to the people of Rarotonga for years and has exciting plans for the future. The Mooring Fish is open Monday to Friday 10.30 to 3.30 and Sunday 12.00 to 4.00. Take outs are available Ph 25553.
