STRING TEST
Ashaway ZyMax® 68 TX Badminton String
Playtest
We received sets of ZyMax 68 TX string in Optic Yellow and sent it out to our testers. This is the
latest addition to the Ashaway Zymax line of strings.
This string was designed as a stiff er textured string which has great durability for players with a lot
of power already. Ashaway reports that sales are already going very well for the new string.
According to Ashaway, the advantages of this string are increased dynamic stiff ness, increased
knot and shear strength, low tension loss and more grip on the ball.
-ZyMax® 68 TX, a new badminton string with a proprietary textured surface coating to enhance
feel and control of the shuttle.
-ZyMax 68 TX utilizes Ashaway’s proprietary BETA polymer fi bers and is constructed using the
company’s special ZyWeaVe™ string core technology.
Available in white, orange or optic yellow in color, ZyMax 68 TX is 0.68 mm thick (21 gauge) and
is available in 10 meter (33 ft) sets and 200-meter (660 ft) reels. Recommended stringing tension
is up to 40 lbs.
IN THE LAB
The coil length measured a 10.2 meters. The diameter measured 0.69-0.72 mm prior to stringing, and 0.67
– 0.69 mm after stringing at 28 pounds.
The single set of Ashaway ZyMax 68 TX weighed 4.3 grams.
TESTERS
The string was tested for fi ve weeks by 23 ERSA playtesters, with playing levels from
intermediate to coaches and players playing sectional tournaments These are blind tests, with playtesters
receiving unmarked strings in unmarked packages. Average number of hours
playtested was 8.7.
No playtester broke his sample during stringing, and no one reported any problems stringing.
ON THE COURT
All of the playtesters found that Ashaway ZyMax 68 TX played very consistantly over the test period. The
ratings are well above average for Durability, Control, Spin Potential and Tension Maintenence. These
strengths combined to give Ashaway ZyMax 68 TX an overall score above average.
No one broke the sample string during play, with an average playing time of 8.7 hours.
CONCLUSION
Ashaway ZyMax 68 TX was rated very high in
durability, control, spin and holding tension. Most of
the testers said they would add it to their sortiment.
The string does what it was made to do, off er great
durability and tension control with a new textured
surface.
