Vascular pathology
Vertebral artery – dissection thrombosis, aneurysm, pseudoaneurysm, AV fistula
dissection usually occurs in the setting of blunt cervical trauma – most commonly V3
segment as this segment is enclosed between C2 vertebral foramen and dura. There is
a tear in the intima with an intra mural haematoma. This appears as a crescentic
hyperintensity on T1/2W with a narrowing of the vertebral lumen.
Schwanomas
These are usually intradural but may be extradural. They may develop cystic
degeneration or haemorrhage.
Perivertebral Space
Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor – These lesions demonstrate marked
heterogenity due to secondary cystic degeneration and necrosis. 605 are associated
with bone destruction and invasion of surrounding tissues. Marked heterogenesity
due secondary cystic degeneration, necrosis 60% associated with NF – 1 and may be
associated with bone destruction and invasion of surrounding tissues.
