These two bellies terminate in a central tendon, which pierces the stylohyoid muscle and is contained in a fibrous sling arising from the body and greater cornu of the hyoid bone. The space between the two anterior bellies of the digastric muscle constitutes a fat filled space known as submental space. This houses the submental lymph nodes level 1A.
