These two bellies terminate in a central tendon, which pierces the stylohyoid muscle
and is contained in a fibrous sling arising from the body and greater cornu of the hyoid
bone. The space between the two anterior bellies of the digastric muscle constitutes a
fat filled space known as submental space. This houses the submental lymph nodes
level 1A. The submandibular lymph nodes level 1B lie lateral to the anterior belly of the
digastric muscle.
Lip
This is the most common site for squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity, constituting
40% of cases. Most commonly it occurs due to extensive sun exposure due to
ultraviolet light. Due to the highly visible location these lesions are easily detected.
