Prismatic cells permit thinner batteries and lower manufacturing costs. They resemble chocolate bars, and make optimal use of space by by being packaged in layers.
Do you think Audi’s prismatic battery cell concept will give it a big march?
We hope so! Because you don’t develop it if you hope that it’s not going to…this is an area I’m quite interested in, because its so embryonic. It’s moving quite quickly, you’re pushing down an avenue, then you get limitations, so it’s change in direction.
Looking forward, we’re in the
right direction, we hope…Further
down the line I’m sure that there’ll
be slight direction changes as we
learn and understand new limitations.
Right now it’s a huge, huge development area im road cars, more so than I think it was when we really started going in on a racing perspective with the diesel
programmes, because that technology had
been developed out of something that was
a much more known quantity.
This is right at the beginning and starting to look towards the future, but that future will dictate a little bit about we need out of it and that’s down to regulations, basically.
