Porsche has unveiled pics of its generation II 919 Hybrid being tested by Marc Lieb at its Weissach test track in the latter part of December.
The team's 2015 World Endurance Championship challenger is a ground-up design based on the same concept as the original 919, but with notable changes to its predecessor such as revised bodywork and mechanical components. Overall it will be lighter, with a 2.0-liter V4 turbo but with two energy recovery systems – Porsche has yet to stipulate whether its new challenger will compete in the 6 MJ or 8 MJ class.
Porsche has yet to also reveal which hybrid subclass the car will compete in. The 2014 model ran in the 6 MJ class but it’s understood both the German manufacturer and Toyota had been exploring a move to 8 MJ, the maximum allowed within the rules.
Further testing is began at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday through this week with further tests scheduled at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
