ORECA Challenger Gets New Upgrade Package For Le Mans

The veil on the ORECA O3-R was recently lifted, as the #47 KCMG entry was shown on Facebook to sport a new aero package on their NISSAN-powered race car, which will be driven by the team of Matt Howson, Richard Bradley and Alexandre Imperatori for the forthcoming 24-hour endure at Le Sarthe.

The most notable changes to the package is on the front aerodynamics of the car, but until the race at Le Mans gets underway, it remains to be seen whether the other teams running an ORECA package will follow suit.

The other teams include:

•Sébastian Loeb Racing

•SMP Racing

•Race Performance

•Murphy Prototypes

•Alpine (Signatech)

ORECA's Director of Technology, David Floury, said that the O3 was a proven and reliable foundation to work from, with the O3R embodying the fact that LMP2 is a cost-based competitive category.

"We logically and essentially brought forth aerodynamic evolution, according to the LM P2 regulations, The clear goal is to take the next step in terms of performance according to the specific characteristics of the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, while remaining true to the spirit of the category," said Floury, who also said that there were further enhancements made to the package in general, but the updated front end used will only be making a sole appearance at Le Mans.

The fact that ORECA has never won at Le Mans is a statistic that the French constructor wants to change, as they have won 18 times over the last three years via their customer teams. Le Mans is that missing piece of the puzzle, with the reliability hopefully being that main factor that could bring a dream come true for one of the LMP2 ORECA-supportedoutfits competing in France next weekend.
