Amy Gusewelle
It started as an orchestra
With all the world’s instruments displayed
The beautiful harmony of symbiosis
Echoed throughout the stage
Every beat balanced in counterpoint
The entire audience was engaged
Until the strings suddenly began
To sound indistinctly strange
The audience grew selfish and
The song began to change
The sheet music was choking
On black ink
The stage began to break
Some instruments went quiet
Others forever extinct
Never to awake
All because of the audience’s
Irreparable mistakes
One day it is said that the orchestra
Will go silent with morbidity
That there will be nothing but death
For the stage to accompany
If humanity cannot fathom the courage
To lead our destiny differently
Than the once beautiful orchestra
Will be a mere
A capella symphony.
