Equinox 2019 | Page 2

Dear Reader,

Balance is delicate. Time and work, heart and mind, are forces that hang onto the wavering beam of life. We test our footing on one side, using the tips of our toes to graze the rough surface. The beam tilts, and we tilt with it, scrambling to pull ourselves back up. We inevitably fall back to the other side, grasping the beam until we hold still. Stillness is a dangerous state, but one that proves to be the safest. Through the works of writing and art, joy and heartache, we see the delicate balance come alive.

Equinox is Maine South High School’s literary magazine. The students are our authors, artists, photographers and poets. Each student holds a talent or passion, and through Equinox they can set it free. Each work has its own place on our pages.

The students who submit to Equinox do so by their own decision, making Equinox open to anything that students craft with their hands and minds. This year’s selection was a beautiful embodiment of this talent. We thank them, and you, the readers, who support our magazine.

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

Find your balance.
