Starting at a New School
Angelina Popovic
My hands open the doors
To the start of the unknown
Regret weighs down my shoes
Causing them to hit the floor
Of the place that’s new
My jacket clings to the dark lockers
Trapped by my new surroundings
I shudder
My toes curl up
Holding on to my worn out shoes
Embracing my jacket, I inhale
Taking in the scent of familiarity
The calm takes panic’s place
My mind clears
And my heart slows its pace
