Antibiotic use policy. Drakenstein Vet Clinic very kindly allowed us to use this document. Dr Catriona Lyle has volunteered to co-ordinate and drive Saeva’s a/b stewardship program. I am sure though that she will welcome all assistance. She has already attended an infection control/antimicrobial stewardship conference/workshop in Cape Town last month on behalf of Saeva. She has also been invited to speak at the SAASP (South African Antibiotic Stewardship Programme) strategy meeting on “Determinants of antibiotic use in horses” on 1st December in Muldersdrift . But back to Beva with regards to encouraging younger veterinarians several avenues were discussed from the millennial generation and their wants’ to the rising debt being experienced (in the USA) by the young practitioners. Beva has extended a survey to its’ young members which will be collected anonymously and the results assessed to see what drives the younger members of our profession to becoming horse vets. Saeva will also submit thus survey to its members in the near future. Please would everybody complete and return it so that we can participate in this world wide event. Trips like this just don’t happen to sponsorship. Once again I would like to “thank “ V-tech for its generous sponsor of the aeroplane ticket so that we are able to attend Beva each year. We have managed to organise sponsorship from V-tech and Zoetis for the production of two webinars. The one will be on Saeva’s disease reporting system and the other will be on certification of passports . A big “Thank you” to both of theses companies and “please, please” when these are advertised help participate to make them a success A final reminder to everybody is check out the website. Registration is open for next years congress • Volume 20 Issue 3 | October 2018 • 5
