Equine Health Update EHU 2020 Issue 02 | Page 3

Editorial Welcome to the second edition of the EHU for 2020. The world has changed considerably since the last Newsletter. Covid and lockdown still have the feeling of a really bad dream that just won’t end. Most of us were fortunate I think to be able to continue with some essential work during the last few months although it is quite clear by now that our industry will not return to normal any time soon if ever. One of the few upsides of the worldwide lockdown was the plethora of free online veterinary learning resources that was made available by various organizations. For this issue of the EHU we again have a number of interesting abstracts from the EVJ and the usual Equine DIsease Quaterly from the University of Kentucky which includes the normal global disease reports and in this issue some interesting discussion on nocardiform placentitis. We are fortunate for this issue to have a recent study of Thoroughbred yearling laryngeal grades in South Africa. Well done to the author Sean Miller for managing to publish some really good clinical work whilst juggling the time constraints of private practice. Thanks also to JSAVA for allowing SAEVA to reproduce this paper. BEVA continue to lead the way with equine CPD and very generously make a lot of this content freely available to non members. The recent publication on fetlock radiographic technique and the flexed DP view is a fantastic resource for equine veterinarians. Our CPD article for issue is another from Vetstream vetlexicon and is a recent updated article on Borreliosis. There seems to be some renewed interest in this disease worldwide in recent times and although undoubtedly a very rare disease in South Africa it is probably something most us should still have in the back of mind and be familiar with. Thanks again to Heinrich and Madaleen at Vetlink for putting this publication together. Johnny Cave • Volume 22 Issue 02 | June 2020 • 3
