YMG Report | EQUINE
The week started with registration of all the attending
delegates. Students helped and it was a great opportunity to
meet veterinarians and veterinary physiotherapist alike. The
Symposium was set into full swing with introductions of the
international speakers. The week was full of lectures, discussions
and practical sessions by Dr Kevin Haussler, Dr Heli Hyytianen and
Dr Lesley Goff. It was an informative and interactive week with
students being involved in discussions as well as the wet labs.
The integration of veterinary
physiotherapy into the lectures, discussions and practical session highlighted the
benefit of assimilating it into veterinary practice. Students also had the privilege to
work with Dr Tom Ovendale when cases were presented to him at the Equine Clinic.
Students assisted in doing ultrasound scanning, X-ray and lameness evaluations.
Students also engaged in veterinary discussions and an equine dissection with Dr
Tom Ovendale and Prof Sybrand van den Berg, which was very enlightening.
The week was not all work and no play, students were invited to attend various
dinners and socials with the veterinary physiotherapy students as well as people from
trade. On the final evening, a gala dinner was held at the College, where students
dressed up and socialized with delegates. It provided an informal setting to create
relationships between the veterinary physiotherapy and veterinary professions.
