SAEVA YMG committee also used this time to get in contact with Vets or delegates who would be able to come and present talks at Onderstepoort throughout the year. Day 2 started with rusks and coffee at the Lake Panic bird hide and some quick game viewing before lectures. Lectures covered a range of topics including African Horse Sickness and West Nile Virus as well as Renal Disease and Cardiovascular problems. A very informative lecture on Insurance took place in the afternoon where we were able to learn a lot of the ins and outs of equine insurance, and what the role of the Vet is when a horse is insured. We spent the evening braaing on our own as students which was a welcome relief for the introverts among us. It was also great to bond and get to know each other better. Saturday morning started early and the students were lucky enough to sit in on the Sporthorse Subcommittee meeting. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the current issues facing Sporthorse vets in South Africa. There is also a possibility of SAEVA YMG students being trained to assist vets as testing technicians for drug tests which is quite exciting for us. Excitedly we headed back to Vets Camp to prepare for the Gala Dinner. Beautifully decorated with great music and good company, the Gala Dinner did not disappoint. After another wonderful meal the golf winner was announced, and an auction ensued which was also in aid of the Australian bush fires. The Spirit of SAEVA award was presented to Prof James Gilkerson after he made an incredibly witty, and humorous speech. Thereafter the students announced their mentors for the year going forward and with all the admin taken care of, the festivities began... Sunday morning was quiet as many Vets had left already but we were still presented with great lectures including
