Equine piroplasmosis
Piroplasmosis occurred sporadically throughout the
country and was the second most reported disease for
the period with a total of 202 cases reported. By far the
majority (148) were cases reported from Gauteng. Cases
were reported in every month of the period except
for September, and the highest number of cases were
reported in March (n=95).
Equine encephalosis (EEV)
125 cases of EEV were reported for the period reviewed.
Similar to the distribution of AHS cases, the majority
were reported from Gauteng. The provincial breakdown
is shown in Table 2 while the spatial distribution by local
municipality is shown in Figure 4.
