The Appeal of New Possibilities
When I first became involved in the model horse hobby
as a young girl, there were a handful of big dreams participants had for the community. At the top of many lists
was a full-color magazine. It is perhaps ironic then that
this, the first magazine based in the United States printed
entirely in color, features an unpainted horse on the cover of its premiere issue.
Aside from the fact that in “Lucius”, Emilia Kurila has captured the beauty and romance that draws so many creative people to horses, I felt that a pristine white sculpture
was a wonderful symbol for the start of a new venture.
How many of us have received a new mold—or even just
learned of the release of one—and immediately began
imaginging the potential colors and patterns? All the endless possibilities! In that moment, our new (or hoped-for)
acquisition might be anything. The only limit is our imagination. It is that feeling that I hoped to duplicate when
readers opened this, the first issue of our new shared project.
