Brimham Riding club fun ride at Ripley Jackie McCoubrey and friends 2nd June 2013 Sunday the 2nd of June dawned sunny and dry in North Yorkshire – much to the relief of the Brimham Riding Club Annual Fun Ride Organisers, who last year had the dreadful weather conditions of Jubilee Day with which to contend. Riders from West Yorkshire as well as York and Skipton were Angela Brock Photos by Jane Horton jchphotography among the 76 riders (with a wide range of both age and riding experience) who could choose to ride either an 8 or 12 mile route through beautiful fields, bridle paths and lanes. Being able to start at their leisure between 9am and noon made for a very relaxed atmosphere. Although the ride did not feature Christina Jones any optional jumps there were plenty of challenges along the way – silaging tractors, water crossings, wind turbines and a barn full of invisible (yet audible!) pigs to name just a few. As last year, Brimham Riding Club is very grateful to Sir Thomas Ingilby for allowing the use of Ripley Showfield – in the grounds of picturesque Ripley Castle – as horsebox park and Annissa Cook and Truffle starting point and a donation from the proceeds of the ride will be made to Sir Thomas Ingilby’s charity, Myeloma UK. Thanks are also due to the volunteers who manned road crossings, gates and checkpoints. Photos are by Jane Horton (www. jchphotography.co.uk) and were taken as riders approached the very welcome refreshment stop.
