Sue Carson’s Top Five Tips
1. Don’t do anything different from the way you ride at home. 2. Do look the part; your horse must be clean and his mane should be plaited. 3. You should have a jacket on that fits and your hair should be neat. Turnout is the same as going to a boardroom business meeting in your jeans you wouldn’t do it! 4. At elementary level, you only need sufficient collection to carry out the movement. You must still ride forwards. 5. Before you ride down the centre line, be sure you’ve taken your horse’s boots off, that your tack is legal and that you have read the rule book. In the back of the rule book is a simple explanation of how you should ride every movement and what the judge will be looking for.
Mirrors for Mooreland
Rebecca Higgs
Mooreland Stables of Griffydam, Leicestershire were lucky enough to win a fabulous arena mirror, donated by ‘Mirrors For Training’. The competition started early this year on Facebook. Clubs and riding schools were asked to be nominated by their clients who had to explain to Mirrors For Training why they thought their club would benefit from a mirror.
Following lots of kind and generous words from our clients, Mooreland Stables were put through to the shortlisted top 10 clubs/schools. From here, each club had to gain votes and the club with the highest number of votes at midday 1 week later was deemed the winner. Wow.......tense or what!? The response to our nomination was absolutely immense. At the start of the competition, when other clubs had 300 or so votes, I just succumbed to the fact that we didn’t know that many people, and it was a nice thought but never mind! However, as the time went on, more and more votes came in and we took the lead. We had votes coming in from all over the world including Brazil, America, Australia and Japan! On the final morning, I could not watch! The votes were flying around and the whole of Facebook just seemed to be spammed by our clients begging their friend for votes. It was amazing! Eventually, the voting finished and we took
the lead by just 2 votes, with over 1200 votes for us in total. I would just like to thank each and every person who voted for us and made this happen and, of course, a massive ‘Thank you’ to MIRRORS FOR TRAINING. It has made Mooreland Stables so proud to be part of the East Midlands Equestrian Community, and I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye the way everyone pulled together! The mirror has now been installed and we had our first dressage competition last week. Everyone commented on how fantastic the mirrors are! We are planning a Charity Games evening and photo shoot to thank everyone who voted for us. For full details of this including date and time, please become our friend on Facebook.
