Clothes for Show Pony/Hack Classes
The correct dress for riders in Show Pony classes is a navy riding jacket, shirt and tie and canary or beige jodhpurs. Riders should wear brown jodhpur boots and use jodhpur clips to stop their jodhpurs from riding up. Brown or tan gloves should be worn at all times as well as a navy velvet hat. The hat should be correctly secured and meet the current safety stands. Girls’ hair should be neatly tied back with a ribbon or a scrunchie. To look really smart riders should have matching ties, ribbons and browbands. The dress for hack classes does not differ that much from show ponies however riders should wear long black boots instead of jodhpur boots and, depending on the show, a hat without a chin strap. If you feel nervous at all then it is advisable to wear a hat that conforms to all the safety standards. Men in hack classes can wear a hacking jacket and a bowler hat. Horse Wear
The aim of showing is to show your horse off to the best of your ability. In lead rein and first ridden classes, ponies should wear snaffle bridles. For open flat classes, whether horses or ponies, the traditional wear is a double bridle, however if your horse does not go well in one then you can use substitute bits such as a Pelham. For novice classes check with the society before entering the ring because some require horses and ponies to wear only a snaffle. For show ponies and hacks, their bridles should be fine with a coloured browband that complements both the rider and the horse. Show hunters and Mountain and Moorland ponies should have a heavier bridle
Turnout for the Horse
All show horses, apart from Mountain and Moorland ponies, pure-bred Arabs, and Haflingers must be plaited up and have a neatly pulled or plaited tail. There should be careful attention to detail and your pony or horse should be trimmed to give them a more defined and elegant appearance. Mountain and Moorland ponies should be shown in their natural state, however you can subtly trim your pony to improve his overall appearance but make sure you check with the breed type before doing so (Exmoor ponies should not be trimmed at all). Working Hunter classes

However, there can be some slight changes so that the rider can be more comfortable and secure when they jump. Most people will jump in a velvet hat that conforms to safety standards, however if you feel more comfortable in a skull hat then riders can wear these with a black or navy cover. Body protectors can also be worn when jumping.
