The Advanced Progressive schedule included classes from British Novice to a National 1m30 class, including 2 SCOPE qualifiers, a Katherine James 1m Novice and a 1.05m AutoStop Adventurer Championship Qualifier. Generous sponsorship from Buildbase, Robinson, Radleigh Construction, Tomlinson and Snaffles Saddlery meant that prize money to 6th place was guaranteed in each class. Competition organiser, Stephanie Meadows who is the Manager at Derby College Equestrian Centre was delighted with the way the competition ran. “As it was our first British Showjumping competition and entries on the day, we had no idea how the many riders would be attending so we were thrilled to welcome 117 horses. We wanted to run a show for the riders to support the industry as an example of best practice to our students. Having the generous support of our sponsors enabled us to guarantee prize money to 6th place in each class. We gave out £2006 prize money over the 8 classes which meant that many riders went home with money in their pocket having paid for fuel and entries.” Bill Chaplin from Buildbase sponsored the 1m20 Foxhunter and Open and the National 1m30 class. “I really enjoyed watching the competition and seeing the skill of the riders and horses. We were all invited to a sponsors evening the night before where British Showjumping course builder Amanda Cole walked the course with us and explained the ins and outs of jumping a course. I was proud to be a sponsor and am delighted to have been able to support Derby College in running this event.” “I have never had the opportunity in getting involved in the running of a British Showjumping competition before,” said second year Extended Diploma in Horse Management student Lauren Whitaker (17) “It was great seeing Noctambule Courcelle, ridden by Charlotte Walker in the 1m30 class. We last saw him at Olympia when we went there on a study trip at Christmas time when Ben Mehyer won the Puissance on him.” “I was very impressed with Amanda Cole’s course. It was amazing to see how she could change the course for each class to keep asking the horses new questions, without having to move the jumps too much. The jump offs were very exciting, Mark Thompson’s winning turn in the 1m30 was very daring!” said Becky Hall (18), another student on the Extended Diploma course. “I also enjoyed stewarding in the collecting ring. It was very helpful to see the preparation the riders did before going in to jump. I am doing my BHS Stage 2 in a couple of weeks and I will be able to use some of the techniques I saw in my exam.” Pictures on Page 24 Club - Horse 0.90m 121 Hannah Price 62 45 45 30 18 15 13 10 10 10 8 Sue Evans Carrick Anderson Coral Shields Charlotte Stockdale Hannah Baker Christina Faulkner Diane Susan Briggs Lisa Hardy Julie Mansbridge Paula -Ann Frazer Claire Elizabeth Lindfield JAVA III ATHENA DE LA COURS IRISH CASANOVA GEELA LAD BANTRY BAY IV BRACKEN V G YPSY ROSE II SHANNONDALES SPRITE BURCHAMS DIAMONTE CHERRY B IV PAR DE DEUX GOLDEN JOKER Club - Horse 1.00m 106 Hannah Price 36 12 10 Sue Evans Danielle Deakin Hannah Baker JAVA III ATHENA DE LA COURS SUNNY III BRACKEN V Club - Pony 0.70m 91 71 53 22 16 15 12 Coral Shields Stephanie Dillon Carrick Anderson Stephanie Dillon Amalia Kinsella Becky Clarke Penny Griffin BLUE DREAM BARKWAY ROYAL BLUE STONEYFORD BULLSEYE BUTTERFLY DREAMING KNOCKMARTIN LUCK AMHURST PETITE FLEUR KISSEMMIE SOVEREIGN 20 www.equestrianlifemagazine.co.uk EL-JUL13-S2.indd 20 21/06/2013 22:05:37
