Bethany, from Suffolk, has been able to hone her animal communication and healing skills during her placement and it’s been fascinating to watch the ponies interacting with her. While they are sometimes wary of new people, they greeted Bethany like an old friend and she was happily riding our most sensitive gelding straight away! The students have been able to get involved in planning and preparation for our summer workshops and Exmoor Pony Festival demo and Sarah will be showcasing her agility and liberty work with three-year-old Penelope Pitstop. If you would like to be considered for a work placement or internship at Holtball Exmoor Pony Stud, please email Dawn Westcott at marketing@equinetourism. co.uk. There are opportunities for experience and training all year round. More info at www. exmoorponyclub.co.uk First Thought Equine gives show riders the Edge! First Thought Equine Ltd, the designers of WOW Saddles, have created a new range called the EDGE collection which, through popular demand, includes a brand new Show Saddle. from extra narrow all the way to 8X wide, which means that you can now have a showing saddle with all the inter-changeability you could need, especially useful for horses that change shape throughout the year. The EDGE saddles differ from the existing WOW range, offering a traditional outside but with all the patented WOW technology that has proven to enhance movement and improve muscle development in horses across the disciplines. The EDGE collection also utilises the same revolutionary WOW tree, which is laterally flexible whilst longitudinally rigid. This combined with the unique Pointless Panel System, which provides a bigger support area than an equivalent size western saddle, means horses are able to move more correctly through the shoulder. The EDGE Show Saddle is made from highest quality hides. The flaps are “frenched” (covered in panel hide) to give a soft supple flap that looks and feels superb. Under the skirt you will find two stirrup bars to offer the rider a more forward position for jumping, and a back bar for flatwork. The EDGE Show Saddle has traditional short girth billets and both point and balance straps can be easily added as required by either the saddler or the rider, with a simple bolt! First Thought Equine Ltd have stayed true to their principle of giving as much fitting choice for the horse by using the same interchangeable headplate and panels, thus giving over 200 fitting combinations! The range of tree fittings is also extensive, Sarah Anglberger working at liberty with Exmoor youngster Penelope Pitstop just one piece of leather so there are no seams on the seat to wear out or cause discomfort. Designer and Managing Director of First Thought Equine Ltd, David Kempsell explains why the company have developed this new saddle design. “For many years we have been asked to create a specific show saddle incorporating our technology,” he says. “But the WOW product philosophy was to give the ultimate choice, which went against specific saddle design. With the EDGE range we have made a collection that is discipline specific, starting with the EDGE Show Jumping and now the EDGE Show Saddle. Watch this space for even more product developments later this year!” The EDGE Show Saddle comes with a choice of tree curvatures (front to back) so all breeds and types can be fitted with the same style of saddle, from flat backed natives to horses with a more defined wither. The EDGE Show Saddle was launched at the Longines Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead from 30th July – 4th August where WOW sponsored the prestigious Riding Horse Championships. Priced from £2295, for more information about the EDGE Show Saddle contact First Thought Equine Ltd on showing@ wowsaddles.com or 01227 831614. The seat of the EDGE Show Saddle is designed to keep the leg close to the horse, providing minimal bulk under the thigh and, being generous and reasonably flat it can accommodate varying shapes and sizes of riders.
