As Emile Durkheim explain religion gives meaning and purpose to life; without religion individuals would lose hope and a sense of their identity ( Sociology 17.3, 2016). Religion emphasizes the importance of harmony, justice and equality. It is the purpose that bring unity among humans and reinforces stability. We must condemn extremists and terrorism in the name of religion and unite religious diversity. Human beings need to promote religious diversity because it embraces compassion, respect and love for one another. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “a living faith will last in the midst of the blackest storm” this means that faith will always embrace love and light in the darkest times. Religion will always be the motivation for positive change in the midst of everything.
Over the past few decades, the human race has change in ways religious leaders did not predict. From gay to queer, terms denoting gender and sexuality have evolved since the 20th Century. As generations change over time religious leaders have had to developed an open mind in order to assure inclusion in the church. For instance, the protestant church in the U.S alone has had more than 5,000 churches that embrace the full inclusion of lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender people ( National Academic Press, 2014). In order to achieve inclusion of the church, religious members must accept one another without judgement. It is important that members of religious groups find unity as a community and accept each individual without discrimination. Hence, it is the only way in which the religious community can reinforce positive heroism in order to transcend into the era of inclusion.
