The report of a lecturer at the Ogun State College of Health Technology , Ilese , Ijebu , Dr Seyi Adu , who allegedly impregnated a female student of the school , Mosunmola , is generating heat .

While the state Ministry of Health said it had set up a panel to probe the matter within seven days , the college said Mosunmola was not a student
of the school when she got pregnant .
The school further added that Adu was not an employee of the college , but just an “ associate lecturer .”
Although Nigerians who read the story on PUNCH Online and different social media platforms took different sides , they agreed that the Ogun State Government must investigate
the case and bring culprits to book .
PUNCH Metro had reported that Adu and Mosunmola had sex in a hotel sometime August 2016 , which both parties did not deny .
However , while Adu , who is married with two children , accused the 28-year-old of seducing him , Mosunmola said the lecturer coerced her into the

police inspector and two siblings have lost their lives during a masquerade festival at Ilagbo community , in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State .
PUNCH Metro learnt that some youths of Oriyanrin , a neighbouring community , had attended the masquerade event tagged , Kilajolu festival , at Ilagbo on Saturday when a clash broke out between the two communities .
Some elders of the host community were said to have sent the youths away .
It was gathered that the youths regrouped and laid in ambush for some Ilagbo youths who were returning from the festival , hacking one Ismaila to death .
Our correspondent learnt that Ismaila ’ s brother , identified simply as Matanle , had gone to remove the corpse of his brother at the scene , when he was also hacked to death by the Oriyanrin youths .
Angered by the deaths , Ilagbo youths reportedly went on a reprisal and attacked Oriyanrin , burning down houses , vehicles , among other valuables .
It was gathered that a team of policemen were deployed in the communities to restore normalcy , during which the inspector , whose identity had yet to be disclosed , was killed by the rampaging youths .
A resident , Moriu Made , described the incident as unfortunate , saying he escaped death by a whisker , adding that the community had been deserted .
He said , “ I was ill and because of that , I could not run when the youths from Ilagbo invaded our community .
“ They burnt my house and my younger brother ’ s house . Some other residents ’ houses were also burnt . I don ’ t know where to start from .

“ My family members have run away ; only a few persons are left in the community and I have not eaten for three days . Government should please provide adequate security for us .”
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police , Fatai Owoseni , who visited the warring communities on Tuesday warned the residents to desist from communal clashes .
The CP , while addressing traditional rulers and elders in the areas , said the command would be forced to take stiff actions against the communities if they failed to embrace peace .
He said , “ We will make sure there is no reprisal in the community , but the traditional heads need to do something except if you are not capable .
“ The elders in this community should be ashamed of themselves . The police helped you to settle clashes , but you went ahead to kill an inspector .
“ Nothing stops you from organising a vigilance group with the police . Instead , your children go behind to kill policemen . Policemen also have families . You know the solution , but if you don ’ t want

peace to reign , we will handle it with force .
“ You need to give us assurance that you are ready to defend your communities because security starts with you . You should establish cordial relationship with investors to enjoy corporate social responsibility .”
Owoseni urged the residents to join hands with the police in fighting militants in the communities , rather than creating divisions among themselves .
“ We keep doing our best in chasing militants away from your communities , but you are starting an internal fight instead of joining hands with us to combat militants ,” he said .
The CP confirmed the death of the brothers , adding that two persons had been arrested in connection with the crisis .
“ It was after the brother ( Matanle ) was attacked that a distress call got to the police and our men were deployed in the community to restore normalcy .
“ We have had discussion with the community leaders to help us with information on how to arrest the culprits who caused the carnage so that peace can return .” relationship as a precondition to passing his course which she failed .
Efforts by the college ’ s provost , a dean and head of department , to mediate in the dispute were said to have met a brick wall .
A human rights lawyer with the state ministry of justice was said to have successfully brokered a deal between the duo , wherein Adu agreed to pay Mosunmola a monthly stipend of N5,000 in addition to N7,000 for her ante-natal registration .
Within two months , the agreement broke down after Mosunmola presented a list of items required for her delivery , which she valued at N50,000 .
Adu was said to have accused Mosunmola of wanting to turn him into a cash cow .
The Commissioner for Health , Ogun State , Tunde Ipaye , on Tuesday said a panel had been set up to investigate the claims of both parties .
He said , “ I heard about the case for the first time from your ( The PUNCH ) report . I have instructed the Permanent Secretary to invite the lecturer , who is primarily a worker at the ministry . He is just a part-time trainer at the school of health technology . I have asked the PS to set up a committee and
I have given him one week to feed me back on the result of the committee . That started yesterday ( Monday ).
“ We are not unmindful of what the requirements of ethical practices are . And we will do the needful . The first thing we will do is to establish culpability . But if our investigation shows he is guilty , we will act . The ministry will handle the case appropriately and whatever the law says we should do , we will do .
“ This is a ministry that will not run away from its responsibility . We have handled many cases like this in the past and appropriate actions were taken . Professionalism is professionalism and we will not allow anybody to bring down any institution of government .”
The Public Relations Officer of the college , Ayodele Alaga , said the issue was between two adults , adding that the school had nothing to do with it .
He said , “ Damage has been done to the name of our school over this matter . We are talking about two adults who had a mutual agreement . What happened between them was not a case of rape ; there was

who reportedly used gun butts , cutlasses and sticks freely on the school ’ s population .
One of the injured lecturers , Dr Femi Abanikanda , who narrated his ordeal to our correspondent , said he was beaten up by the rampaging military men , who allegedly injured other lecturers and harassed some female lecturers on the campus .
He said , “ I am in a hospital now for treatment . My head is swollen ; I have a cut close to my ear . There are bloodstains all over me .
“ These people are not supposed to be living close to human habitation . The Air Force Institute of Safety is supposed to be a source of benefit to the community , but their presence here has been bringing tales of woes .
“ They slapped Dr Yusuf ( another lecturer ) and beat everybody they saw with sticks . I have never seen that kind of barbaric act . They should be relocated far away from where human beings are living .”
The Dean , Student Affairs of UNIOSUN , Dr Adebimpe Adigun , said the attack on the campus was bloody .
Adigun added that she went close to the rampaging military men , who she said were many , but they warned her not to come closer or she would be shot .
She said , “ They ( air force men ) came to our campus . They beat up members of staff and students . There are some students , who we have not seen up till now .
“ Six of our students have been admitted to a hospital ; five were treated for injuries . Two members of staff were also wounded by the military men .
“ They did not fire a single shot , but they beat up students and injured them . They also beat up our workers . I knelt down and begged them , but they did not listen . I called their commandant on the telephone to help talk to
