. Before speaking about Sir Magdi Yacoub’s achievements, we must first find out about his upbringing, his education, his achievements and how this man has influenced many communities all around the world.
Dr. Magdi was born in Belbis, Ashraqya, Egypt in November 16th, 1935 to a Coptic family. His father was also a surgeon, so it was a logical choice for Sir Magdi to follow in his footsteps. “I always wanted to be a surgeon. I was totally focused on that, almost boringly so.” After finishing high school, he entered Cairo University and graduated as an esteemed doctor in 1957. Dr. Magdi was a family man, so after his aunt passed away because of heart failure, he took it upon himself and decided to specialize in heart surgery. 5 years after he graduated from University, he moved to Britain to gain some work experience and he later on got and accepted a job offer to become an assistant professor in the University of Chicago in the Unites States. He later became a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon in Harefield Hospital in London.
During his time in Harefield Hospital, we well and truly did turn the fortunes of many people who lived in the community with him. Starting in 1980 and lasting a decade under Dr. Magdi’s leadership, he and his team 1000 of transplant procedures in the hospital, making this particular the top transplant center in the UK.
